When telehealth works well.
Telehealth works well for discussing results, reviewing medicines and scripts, medical certificates, referrals, mental health check-ins and follow-ups. It is not suitable when your GP needs to examine you, and they will ask you to come in if needed.
Medicare telehealth generally requires that you have been seen in person at the practice in the past 12 months, with some exceptions.
- Book a telehealth appointment
- Talk it through with your GP
- Tests, treatment or referral if needed
- Follow-up and review
Can I have my first appointment by telehealth?
Medicare telehealth generally needs an existing relationship with the practice, so a first visit is usually in person.
